My website navycs.com was created in late 2003 to test the oppertunity of in-game advertising for the US Navy. We chose the on-line game Counter-Strike after contacting Valve Software. We placed ads in various maps and ran a server. The numbers worked out very well but Navy Recruiting Command decided the in-game violence and endorsement issues were too great. Now in-game advertising is all the buzz…too bad the Navy didn’t jump on it and be the first major organization to lead the way. I have maintained the site as a hobby ever since and answered many questions of gamers who eventually joined. Fun stuff :)

Tom, that story about the US Navy and in-game advertising is pretty interesting.
